'Paradise' is a word that’s overused far too often, but it’s certainly the right one when it comes to describing Outrigger's Hawaii resorts, according to influencer @andathousandwords, Merel van Poorten. The blogger and Instagrammer jetted into Oahu recently to check out some fun things to do in Hawaii—and to revel in the luxury of two of Outrigger’s fabulous Waikiki beach hotels.

The first stop was the recently refurbished Waikiki Beachcomber. And when we say ‘refurbished’ we mean it! The Beachcomber underwent an extremely thorough $35 million renovation in 2018 during which every wall was touched. The urban-vibe boutique hotel, located less than a block from the ocean,  has been brought bang up to date with a sleek and chic new look.

The incredible ocean views can even be admired from your bed through the floor-to-ceiling glass doors (or from the spacious balconies—glass of Prosecco in hand, naturally!). As Van Poorten says, the panoramas are divine—and with 70% of the rooms offering sea views she highly recommends bagging one of them. The ocean is brought right into the rooms with epic prints of glassy tubes by local surf photographer, Zak Noyle, and the marine theme is echoed through turquoise accents in the contemporary Hawaiian décor.

One of the highlights is the hotel’s Hawaiian Aroma Caffe which serves freshly prepared sandwiches, fluffy pastries and delectable Hawaiian Kona coffee. This breezy little poolside café doesn’t only serve delicious food, it’s also ‘super-Instagrammable’ too with its pineapple motifs and picture-perfect cappuccinos.  

Van Poorten had a number of handy insider tips to share including scooting over to the hotel’s Maui Brewing Co. bar just before sunset to catch live bands or getting up at sunrise for poolside yoga before grabbing an acai bowl at Aroma Caffe.

Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort is the Beachcomber’s sister hotel, located just a stone’s throw away from it—and right on the beach. In fact, it probably has the best views of the beach out of any of the Waikiki beach hotels as well as an unmatched views of the verdant volcanic slopes of Diamond Head to boot. 

There are only a handful of beachfront hotels on the entire island of Oahu. Outrigger Waikiki is not only one of the few hotels located on the beachfront but it also occupies one of the best overall spots on Waikiki Beach.
